As early as in the soviet times, aside from Russian Federation, Georgia was the only republic with a Scientific-Research Institute of Human’s Sexual Function.
An economic crisis deteriorated this problem. By latest estimation, fertility in Georgia drastically decreased. Today, the birth of children is twice as less as 10 years ago. Reasons of such situation vary: many indicate to urbanization, others - Georgian mentality or social-economic crisis. The third is better grounded. This drastic deterioration of living conditions decreased youth’ willing to create family and, secondly, married couples soon divorce.
Decrease in population is observed among other nations residing in Georgia. Thus, if over 80 thousand pupils were studying in Azerbaijani schools in Georgia during the soviet times, today, this number halved. According to latest census, number of Azerbaijani population reduced by 22 203 people.
