PRESIDENT GRANTS PARDON TO A NUMBER OF CONVICTS AND PERSONS SENTENCED TO RESTRICTION OF FREEDOM
Governed by paragraph 22, article 109 of the Constitution of Azerbaijan, President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev today issued a Decree on pardoning 90 prisoners and 5 sentenced to restriction of freedom.
According to the Decree, the decision was made as continuation of Azerbaijani State’s policy based on commitment to the principles of humanism and justice, and demonstration of respect to human rights and freedoms.
Apart from that, appeals for pardon submitted to the President of the Republic by convicts themselves and members of their families, the commissioner of human rights, and human rights protection organization, as well as the convicts’ personalities, family status, health conditions, the fact that they have served a certain part of time and their behavior during that period were also taken into account.
