PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV MET PRESIDENT OF KYRGYZSTAN ASKAR AKAYEV
President Askar Akayev cordially congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his election as head of the Azerbaijani state, expressing confidence that he would continue political course of Heydar Aliyev. President of Kyrgyzstan reminded that last times heads of the Turkish-speaking countries meet not often. He underlined that earlier President Heydar Aliyev had particular contributions in this cause and characterized him as the main initiator of the said meetings. President Askar Akayev noted that the Turkish world needs such leaders as Heydar Aliyev. Mr. Akayev expressed a hope that President Ilham Aliyev would continue this course.
Touching upon the economic links between the two countries, President Askar Akayev offered inter-governmental commission in the said sphere. At his opinion, the Commission could be able to promote use that is more effective for the existing opportunities to expand cooperation.
Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, President of Kyrgyzstan said: “We adhere territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and will stand for this position”.
Stating that the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the hardest problem of the country, President Ilham Aliyev underlined that as the head of state he puts forward this issue at all his meetings and speeches. President of Azerbaijan noted that at the meeting with the UN Secretary General he also put forward the issue of settlement of the Nagorno Karbakh conflict.
President Ilham Aliyev warmly congratulated President Askar Akayev on the coming 2000 anniversary of statehood of Kyrgyzstan.
Expressing his gratitude for warm congratulation, President Askar Akayev reminded that there is a large Azerbaijani Diasporas in Kyrgyzstan. Among them, there are many intelligentsia, businessmen and medical figures. Interesting in the activity of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan, head of Kyrgyzstan said: “We want to cerate such a Fund in our country”.
The two Presidents had exchange of views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
