On 27 October 2004, the issue on inclusion of the item “Situation in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan” in the agenda of the 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly was considered at the sitting of the UN GA General Committee. As a result of the debate, the Committee recommended to add the above-mentioned item in the UN GA current agenda.
On 29 October 2004, following the General Committee’s recommendation, the issue was discussed at the sitting of the UN General Assembly. During the debate, Armenia demanded to put the issue to the vote. There were 143 voting countries: 43 voted for and 1 /Armenia/ against inclusion of the item in the agenda. Remaining 99 abstained from the voting.
Thus, the “Situation in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan” was included in the agenda of the 59th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This decision has laid the foundation for further effective and fair consideration of the issue to prevent the illegal actions committed by Armenia in the occupied territories of the Azerbaijan Republic.
