RECEPTION AT MILLI MAJLIS
Chairman of the Parliament noted that Azerbaijan, after gaining independence, established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China and the relations are developing on the base of friendship and cooperation. Documents signed in the course of the official visit of President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev to China in 1994, as well as agreements signed in the course of mutual negotiations created large opportunities for development of relations between the two countries.
Murtuz Alasgarov dwelt on legal reforms conducted in Azerbaijan, the work implemented in the field of human rights, abolishment of capital punishment, preparation to October 15 Presidential elections.
Chairman informed the history of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its hard consequences, reminding that the OSCE Minsk Group engaged in solution of the conflict, which had no effect up to now. Over 10 years, one million Azerbaijanis live as refugees and IDPs under the hard conditions. PACE has already recognized Armenia as state-aggressor. The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on urgent withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan welcomes position of the People’s Republic of China in adoption of these resolutions.
Chairman stated that official Baku strives to solve the conflict by peace way. On the contrary, the people of Azerbaijan will return their lands by other means and provide territorial integrity of the country.
Mr. Tzsia Tsunvan expressed his gratitude for a warm reception and stated that aim of the visit was development of the relations between the Prosecutor Offices, law-enforcement and juridical bodies of both countries. Agreement on cooperation has been already signed between the bodies of the Prosecutor Offices, Mr. Tsunvan noted.
The sides had also exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
