On September 26, Chairman of Milli Majlis Murtuz Alasgarov met with the newly appointed Ambassador of US to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish.

Having congratulated on his appointment, Mr. Alasgarov stated that relations between the two countries were rapidly developing within past years. Immediately after the September 11 tragic events, Azerbaijan joined antiterrorist coalition that brought relations to the level of strategic cooperation. Our inter-parliamentarian relations are highly developing as well. A relevant Memo has recently signed between the Congress and Milli Majlis, created a steady base for these relations.

The Chairman dwelt on Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He stated that though Azerbaijan subjected to aggression and suffers from terror, it supports peaceful resolution of the conflict in the frame of international law.

Murtuz Alasgarov expressed his confidence that in the period of US Ambassador Reno Harnish’s activity in Azerbaijan, having rich diplomatic experience, relations between two countries would be developing more intensively, and Mr. Harnish will do every effort for solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Having expressed his gratitude, Mr. Harnish stated that US is keen on development of the relations with Azerbaijan. The US highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s activity in the antiterrorist coalition and realizes all difficulties with Nagorno Karabakh.

The diplomat noted that his country is for quick resolution of the conflict and continues its activity in that way.

Then, Murtuz Alasgarov dwelt on the upcoming October 15 Presidential elections.

The sides had exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest as well.
