ROLE OF OMBUDSMAN IN ENSURING OF FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE IN COUNTRY

A roundtable dedicated to the role of Ombudsman in ensuring freedom of conscience in the country, was held at the Ombudsman Office in Baku.

In her opening remarks, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova noted that every man in the Republic enjoys the right of freedom of expression, conscience and religion and that government of Azerbaijan attaches a great importance to the item.

Attending the roundtable, head of the state committee on work with religious structures, Rafig Aliyev said that the religion of Islam bases on humanist and universal values, and that every condition was set up for other religions in Azerbaijan. He also touched upon the links of the religious communities in the country, stressing that it is inadmissible to commit terror acts under the pre-text of religion.

Coordinator of Global Religion Net for Children in the Caucasus and Central Asia Razia Sultan Ismail spoke of the goals and activities of the Organization she represented. Azerbaijan is a bridge connecting Europe and Asia and the country is a convenient space for dialogues between numerous religions and confessions, she underlined.
