RUSSIAN FEDERAL ASSEMBLY MEMBERS MET WITH CHAIRMAN OF CEC OF AZERBAIJAN

On 25 September, members of the delegation of the Russian Federal Assembly met with the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov.

Greeting the guests, Chairman of the CEC updated them on the course of presidential elections. The new Election Code promotes every condition to hold democratic and transparent elections that meet European standards, he stressed. CEC, in its turn, has mobilized all the opportunities to achieve transparency, democracy and freedom in the elections. Members of the regional and precinct election commissions passed special workshops. Government of Azerbaijan ordered transparent ballot boxes, a part of which was delivered to the Country. International observes are visiting the regions to watch the course of preparation of elections. To our great regret, some of them impose double standard to the issue, Mr. Panahov emphasized. The case forms negative image of the international structures they represent.

Head of the delegation, first deputy of the Committee on work with CIS countries Konstantin Markelov expressed his gratitude for cordial reception, stressing the social-political stability established in Azerbaijan.

He agreed with the remarks CEC’s chairman Mazahir Panahov made in the address of foreign observers in the point of ‘double standard’. He said he witnessed such facts during his visits to European countries.

The parties exchanged views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
