RUSSIA ELECTED MEMBER OF UN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL
The statement says that in the course of the 59th session of UN General Assembly, the majority of votes of the member-countries have elected Russia as a member of UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In the document, it is pointed that satisfactory results of voting allowing Russia to be re-elected to the UN key body, was reflection of high authority of Russia in this universal Organization.
“Re-election to the Council was recognition by world community of the constructive line of Russia for strengthening of the role of ECOSOC in capacity of main mechanism for coordination of activity of UN in the economic and social spheres, development of closer cooperation between UN and international finance-economic institutions, private sector and civil society, as well as ensuring more effectiveness of extra humanitarian promotion and post-conflict peace-building”, the Statement said.
