Real Madrid secure Champions League quarterfinal spot by beating Liverpool 1-0

Real Madrid clinched a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals by beating Liverpool 1-0 Wednesday, according to Anadolu Agency.

Karim Benzema's goal in the 79th minute at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium gave Los Merengues a 6-2 edge in the Round of 16 aggregate.

A last-minute possible penalty was denied by the video assistant referee (VAR) in the 93rd minute.

Liverpool goalie Alisson Becker made several vital saves to prevent the Madrid club from netting more goals.

Reigning UEFA Champions League champions Real Madrid are now on their way to the quarterfinal round.

In the other Champions League match of the night, Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 at home in a Round of 16 second leg match. Victor Osimhen in the 47th and 53rd minutes along with Piotr Zielinski with a penalty goal in the 64th minute brought victory to the hosts at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Napoli reached the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in history with a 5-0 aggregate but Eintracht Frankfurt fans' clash with police became the main topic of discussion about the match.
