Rome to host UEFA Executive Committee and Congress

Baku, February 6, AZERTAC

Rome will be the setting for two major UEFA events on Wednesday and Thursday respectively – the latest UEFA Executive Committee meeting and the 43rd Ordinary UEFA Congress, according to the official website of UEFA.

The Executive Committee, chaired by the UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin, will meet at the Italian capital’s Roma Cavalieri Hotel, with strategic matters an important point on the agenda.

The committee will be briefed about UEFA’s strategy for the 2019-24 period, which aims to confidently take UEFA and European football forward into the future and reinforce UEFA’s role as the umbrella body of the European game. In addition, discussions will take place on the future strategy of women’s football, as UEFA increases funds and resources for this thriving sector of the sport.

The committee will also hear details of a new memorandum of understanding between UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA), with the objective of further strengthening the positive cooperation between the two bodies in the coming period.

An update will be given on preparations for UEFA EURO 2020, to be staged in 12 cities across Europe next year, and the committee will be asked to approve the format for the 2019–21 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament. Regulations for various forthcoming competitions are also being submitted for approval.

On Thursday, UEFA and its 55 member associations gather at the Roma Cavalieri Hotel for this year's Ordinary UEFA Congress – Europe's annual football parliament.

UEFA’s President for the next four years will be elected at the Congress. The current President, Aleksander Čeferin (Slovenia), who has been in office since 2016, is the only candidate.

Other elections will take place for seats on the UEFA Executive Committee (eight members, including at least one female, for a four-year term) and FIFA Council (two FIFA vice-presidents for a four-year term, one ordinary member for a four-year term, and two ordinary members for a two-year term).

In other Congress business, the 2017/18 financial statements and the 2019/20 budget will be presented for approval, along with the 2017/18 UEFA Annual Report.
