Russia prevail against Ukraine despite suspensions
Baku, June 14, AZERTAC
Russia overpowered Ukraine to make an impressive start in the men's water polo competition on Saturday.
Despite fielding two substitutes due to suspensions, Russia prevailed 20-7 in their opening Group A game.
Hungary almost let an 8-4 advantage slip against Germany in Group B, meanwhile, but held on for a 9-8 win via five goals from Viktor Vadovics.
“In the first three quarters it was amazing but in the fourth quarter we let it go a little bit, which we shouldn’t do in the upcoming games,” said Alexander Kardos.
Azerbaijan's first appearance in the men's competition ended in a 9-6 Group B defeat to Romania.
There were dominant victories for Russia and Hungary in the women's competition, while Slovakia came from two goals down inside the final five minutes to beat Serbia.
