SEMINAR AT FLETCHER HIGH SCHOOL OF DIPLOMACY AND LAW HELD
In the course of discussions, were demonstrated video-materials on Azerbaijan, updated on historical traditions of oil production in Baku. Noted was that long-term strategic vision of oil policy of the country, including the steps on development of non-oil sector of economy. It was noted that despite the political motivated critics, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP has been supported by the world finance institutions and would play an important role in development of the regional cooperation on constructive basis.
B. Ozkan spoke of the growing dependence of Europe on import of energy resources. In the light of this, he underlined significance of seeking alternative Near Eastern sources of energy. In turn, E. Sokou, having probation in the embassy if Greece in Baku, especially dwelt on the role of potential projects of supply of the Caspian gas to Greece, as a further factor in normalization of the Greek-Turkish relations. At his opinion, energy policy of Baku set up conditions for regional cooperation not only in South Caucasus, but also between Turkey and Greece.
The recently founded Fares Center under the Higher School of Diplomacy and Law after Fletcher follows to study Mediterranean region. Art the opening of the Center in 2002, participated the ex-president of US Bill Clinton, and in 2003 – was visited by President George Bush-senior.
