Prime-Minister of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev received the U.S. Senator Mr. John McCain on October 4.
Thanking the Prime-Minister for taking the time to meet him, Senator McCain expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries. He stressed that Azerbaijan had gained a great authority in the USA as Washington’s reliable partner pointing out a special contribution to that of President Heydar Aliyev. He highly appreciated the constant support Azerbaijan renders to the United States in anti-terror operations.
Senator McCain was curious about the course of President Heydar Aliyev’s treatment in Cleveland, and said the American political elite wish Azerbaijan leader speedy recovery and return to Homeland.
The guest noted he closely watched the processes taking place in the country including Prime-Minister Ilham Aliyev’s successes. As a person showing interest in strengthening friendly relations with Azerbaijan for many years, and a man of a great political experience, the Senator noted he also watches with a great sympathy the Ilham Aliyev’s activity in the Council of Europe, his work directed to further enhance the international prestige of Azerbaijan.
Expressing the great satisfaction that Ilham Aliyev has a great authority both in Azerbaijan and beyond the country including the USA, John McCain sated no one doubts of his victory in the forthcoming presidential elections. He said the initiative of such mature political leaders as Prime-Minister Ilham Aliev always wins the respect of electorate.
Prime-Minister Ilham Aliyev expressed pleasure to meet with Senator John McCain in Baku. Dwelling on the development of Azerbaijani-American relations, he expressed his confidence with further successive co-operation between the two countries. He stressed since 1993 the Heydar Aliyev’s strategy aimed at strengthening of Azerbaijan independence and establishment of equitable co-operation with foreign countries, will be successfully continuing down the road.
Prime-Minister Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction with worthy assessment by American politicians of the Azerbaijan’s joining the U.S.-led anti-terror coalition.
The Prime-Minister also dwelt on the successful co-operation between our countries in economic, security and other spheres, stressing this meets national interests of our stats.
Touching upon the upcoming elections, Prime-Minister Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the Government of Azerbaijan is particularly interested in the elections to be free, fair, democratic and transparent. “Azerbaijan authorities suitably observe all principles of legal state and society building.
During the conversation, Prime-Minister Ilham Aliyev also touched upon his meetings with high-ranking officials in Washington: those with Secretary of State Colin Powel, his first deputy Richard Armitage were especially stressed as very important indication of steady continuation of the bilateral co-operation.
The parties expressed confidence of further successful continuation of the Azerbaijani-American links, and expanding of partnership relations. It was pointed out that Azerbaijan proceeding with confidence along the path of democracy may further count on the USA support.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Ambassador of the United States Reno Harnish and other officials.
