SILK ROAD WILL BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH OTHER INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CORRIDORS
Opening the news conference, Secretary General of the permanent secretariat Abdurashid Tagirov told about importance of the caravan’s movement by the Great Silk Road, Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov on transit opportunities of Azerbaijan and work done in making highways and railways to meet world standards in the sector where international transport corridor crosses the territory of Azerbaijan; special envoy of the European Union to Azerbaijan Antonius V. De Vries on aid rendered by EU and its member-states to development of the Silk Road; President of Dornier Consulting Company Herbert Gruenwald on convenience of the highway on which the caravan moves and Vice President of the corporation Daimler Chrysler Group Claus Mayer on interest shown by prestigious international companies towards this transport corridor.
The speakers pointed out invaluable contribution of President Heydar Aliyev in realization of the idea of the Silk Road. Due to his merits, TRACEKA has started operating.
It was underlined that safe and timely arrival of the motor caravan in Baku confirms once more that the Great Silk Road is able to compete with other international transport corridors.
It was announced, that at 4 p.m. on September 20 the caravan will be loaded to Mercury-1 ferry in Baku international sea trade port and start for the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi.
