STATEMENT OF PRESS-SERVICE OF GENERAL PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
Thus, program “Politics”, October 25, 2003, of the news agency “Turan” says without citing any concrete source that new surge of arrests of election commission members from opposition and authorities forged the signature of commission member Shahin Aliyev in the protocol of the Jabrail-Gubadli constituency, besides, they tried to force the other election commission member Aydin Aliyev, representative of PFA (reformers) to come to police department and sign forged resulting protocol of the precinct election commission.
The fascicle also says that three more members of Jabrail-Gubadli precinct election commission No120 were attacked in order to make him sign forged resulting election protocols.
“Turan” also spread the wrong information that member of “Musavat” Saatli district division Agakishi Shahmurov missed during the events of October 15-16 2003, and two members of Saatli district division of PFA (reformers) – Zeygam Mammadov and Javan Hojayev were detained on October 24, 2003 by police on the unknown ground.
The prosecutor’s office investigated these three cases and concluded that none of those three facts corresponds to fact.
In connection with abovementioned director of news agency “Turan” Mehman Aliyev was officially warned that in case of dissemination of false and biased articles, infringement of requirements of Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On mass media” legal measures will be taken against him. He was suggested to refute these facts.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan Republic once again bring to the notice of mass media that in accordance with the Law of Azerbaijan Republic “On Mass Media”, dissemination of rumors, slander and biased articles as a reputable source or commission of other illegal misdeeds are intolerable and media employees are legally responsible for infraction of law.
