STATE FLAG OF AZERBAIJAN HOISTED IN NEW YORK ON THE DAY OF INDEPENDENCE
As was informed by correspondent of AzerTAj from New York, the Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA) has reached an agreement with the Mayoralty of New York that this event was traditional: from now on annually on 18 October the state flag of Azerbaijan will fly in the Bowling Green Park.
At the celebratory event arranged in the Bowling Green Park to this end, there gathered the Azerbaijanis living in the united States, representatives of the Turkic and Israeli communities, staff members of the Azerbaijan representation at UN and other officials.
Representative of the New York Mayoral Christopher Gonzales also took part at the meeting to congratulate members of the Azerbaijan community in America. In the statement read out on behalf of the Mayor of New York Mr. Michael Bloomberg, it was sounded congratulations on the occasion of the Day of Independence of the Azerbaijan Republic, expressed hope for further strengthening of the American- Azerbaijani friendship.
At the arrangement, speaking were permanent representative of Azerbaijan in UN, Yashar Aliyev, president of ASA Tomris Azeri, adviser to the president of Federation of the Turkic associations Ibrahim Kurtulush and Members of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) now staying on a working visit in New York. Speakers underlined that partnership between America and Azerbaijan is strengthening. Members of the Azerbaijan and Turkic Diaspora, living in the United States, liven up their efforts for contacts with politicians of US, international organizations for quick release of the lands occupied by Armenia.
Then, under the melody of State Anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic, the national Flag of Azerbaijan was hoisted.
