SUMGAIT PLANT ETHYLENE- POLYETHYLENE TOOK LEAD IN CIS

The Sumgait Plant Ethylene-Polyethylene has been awarded the prestigious prize “Crystal Earthmaker” in the nomination “Industry Leader”. The international program “Earthmaker” yearly selects distinguished plants functioning in the post-soviet area. Summing up the results of the analysis of the plant’s activity in 2002, the prestigious prize “Crystal Earhmaker” in the nomination “Industry Leader” has been bestowed upon the Sumgait Plant Ethylene-Polyethylene. The telegram signed by the full member of the Bankers Institute in London, president of “Earhmaker” Mr. Peter Mamo says that success of the Sumgait Plant timed the 10th jubilee of the “Agyariys Earthmaker Limited” will allow it bearing the honored title of laureate, a significant step towards strengthening its image and raising the competitiveness.

According to the plant’s director, doctor of technical sciences, full member of the New-York academy Abulfaz Babayev, this high appreciation is an evidence of ongoing successful reforms, being implemented in Azerbaijan. In 2001, cogeneration plant was put into operation by the close participation of President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. The construction was financed by Japanese firms from the lax credit allotted by “Eximbank” against state security. Thus, if before launching the plant “Azerkimya” enterprises used to pay 219 billion manat to “Azerenergy” yearly last year this amount decreased to 108 billion manat, saving fuel and water valued at 86 billion manat, because of high efficiency of cogeneration plant, generating the energy itself.

Due to the right course, aimed at improvement of efficiency of industrial enterprises the plant became a leader of the industry among CIS countries.

The Earhmaker’s Organizational committee invited the Sumgait Plant for the resulting awarding ceremony to be held October 3 in Malta.
