Shahriyar Mammadyarov to compete at Oslo Esports Cup

Baku, April 22, AZERTAC

Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov will test his strength at the Oslo Esports Cup, the first major event part of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.

The tournament will be held on April 22-28 online on chess24.

The event will also feature seven elite grandmasters including Magnus Carlsen, Jan Krzysztof-Duda, Le Quang Liem, Eric Hansen, Jorden van Foreest, Anish Giri and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu.

The Oslo Esports Cup is an 8-player tournament where the players face off against each of their rivals over seven rounds. Each match features four rapid games at a 15 minute + 10-second increment per move time control. If tied 2:2, the players play two 5+3 blitz games. If still tied they play a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but Black only needs a draw to clinch the match.

The total prize fund is $210,000, with $7,500 up for grabs in each match.

The tournament is the first of three Majors on the 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, with the two Regular events in each cycle serving as qualifiers to the Majors.
