Baku, January 1, AZERTAC
From 1 January 2018, the Slovak Republic is becoming part of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairmanship Troika together with Italy as the incoming chair and Austria, the outgoing country chairing the largest regional security grouping in the world, according to the Slovakian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ website.
Within the Troika, Slovakia will participate in the OSCE Chairmanship with a consultative role in adopting the most important decisions made by the organization, which Slovakia will eventually chair in 2019.
Slovakia has been a member of the OSCE since it became independent. The Organization associates 57 states of Europe, Central Asia and North America, all having equal status. It was founded under Chapter VIII of the UN Charter. All the OSCE participating states have equal rights and the decisions are adopted through consensus.
