St. Petersburg International Economic Forum features session on media transformation trends and prospects VIDEO
Saint Petersburg, May 23 (AZERTAC). A session called “The Media Today: Global Transformation Trends and Prospects” has today been held as part of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The session brought together chairpersons and representatives of news agencies of several countries.
Director General of the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov attended the session.
Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu was present at the session.
The session featured discussions on the main trends and challenges facing the global media community, including: what is the role of the mass media in the modern world, are the media coping with the role of mediators between the state and society well enough, do the interests of the state prevail over the need for the impartial coverage of events, is the mass media capable of controlling the authenticity of information, what is the place of professional ethics in modern journalism, is there truly independent mass media, and can journalists be targets of political sanctions?
The session was moderated by Chairman of Russian National Committee of UNESCO’s International Program for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and Vice-President of News Agencies World Council Mikhail Gusman and Director General of Press Association Clive Marshall.
International Relations Director of EFE News Agency Juan Maria Calvo, Managing General and Chief Executive Officer of ANSA News Agency Giuseppe Cerbone, Director General of Trend News Agency Ilgar Huseynov, Deputy Managing Editor of Associated Press Thomas Kent, Director General of ITAR-TASS Sergey Mikhailov, Director General of Bulgarian News Agency Maxim Minchev, and Executive Director of Kyodo News Hiroki Sugita made speeches at the session.
