The results of a 3-day visit of the group of World Bank /WB/ executive directors to Azerbaijan were discussed at the press conference taken place on December 12 in “Hyatt Regency” Hotel.
During the visit, executive directors met the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Arthur Rasizadeh, head of the National Bank Elman Rustamov and Ministers of Finances and Economic Development, discussed the course of project works being realized under WB support.
According to WB executive director from Pakistan Tanvir Ali Aga, this visit to Baku was very productive. He noted that fundamental economic reforms had been implemented in Azerbaijan, which helped to overcome the crisis of early 1990s. “The Decree of the President of Azerbaijan dated November 24 has become a platform for the future economic development of Azerbaijan and I think that a good state economic program will be prepared on its basis”, the guest said.
WB executive director for Azerbaijan Pietro Velio noted that economic indexes of Azerbaijan are better than in other CIS countries.
“We have arrived in Baku to improve existing good relations between the WB and Azerbaijan” – P. Velio said. He also noted that the WB is ready to support projects in three directions: development of private sector, expansion of infrastructures and modernization of social sphere of Azerbaijan.
As was noted in conclusion, the WB representatives visited refugees and IDPs encampments in Bilasuvar and Saatli provinces of Azerbaijan and took a trip to the Sangachal Terminal.
