Teltower Stadtblatt newspaper: 4th Islamic Solidarity Games saw record number of participants

Berlin, June 10, AZERTAC

“The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games saw a record number of participants,” German Teltower Stadtblatt newspaper wrote in an article.

The article noted that 3,000 athletes from 54 Muslim countries competed in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. This, the article said, was a record number in comparison with previous games. “The athletes contested 270 medal sets.”

“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced 2017 as a Year of Islamic Solidarity. Azerbaijan successfully hosted the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. Our country did their utmost to contribute to solidarity of world Muslims. This event conveyed important messages to the world that Islam is a religion of peace and solidarity,” the newspaper quotes press attaché of the Azerbaijani embassy in Germany Vugar Gafarov. “Azerbaijan hosted European Games for the first time in history and this time we hosted the Islamic Games. This is indicative of our country’s attempt to play the role of a bridge between civilizations and encourage intercultural dialogue in the world,” Gafarov says.
