To His Excellency Mr. Šefik Džaferović, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Dear Mr. Chairman,

I wish to extend my sincere greetings to you and on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan to express gratitude to you for Bosnia and Herzegovina's objective position on Armenia's military provocation against Azerbaijan.

On September 27, 2020, Armenia's armed forces, using heavy artillery, carried out a bombardment of our residential areas and military formations situated along the frontline, killing our servicemen, nearly 20 civilians, including two children, and wounding over 50 civilians. Azerbaijan's army has launched necessary counter-offensive measures to stop this military aggression.

This provocation is a furtherance of Armenia’s 30-year policy of aggression against our country. As of late, especially during the months of July and August, Armenia's military provocations against Azerbaijan have become more regular, while the political-military leadership of that country has made hostile statements aimed at consciously undermining the negotiation process. In the meantime, in blatant violation of the international law, Armenia has implemented foreign nationals' illicit migration to Azerbaijan's occupied territories and set up military units made of thousands of volunteers to fight across our lands.

Azerbaijan's army has and will continue to defend our country's territorial integrity on our soil. Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan's integral part, its ancestral and historical land. The entire international community recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

I thank you again for Bosnia and Herzegovina's just stance on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the norms and principles of the international law, and in line with our country's territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of its internationally recognized borders, under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Our people highly appreciate this support of Azerbaijan by your country.

I believe the traditional ties of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries will continue to develop and expand consistently for the sake of the interests of our peoples.

I extend my best wishes to you and wish everlasting peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sincerely,

Ilham Aliyev

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
