Tokyo reports 57 COVID-19 infections — highest since emergency declaration ended on May 25
Baku, June 28, AZERTAC
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed 57 coronavirus infections Saturday, the highest daily tally since the nationwide state of emergency was lifted on May 25, according to The Japan Times.
Saturday's figure, which brings the cumulative number in the capital to 6,054, came a day after the daily tally nationwide topped 100 for the first time since May 9.
It also marks the second day in a row that over 50 cases have been reported in the capital. Tokyo has been leading the 47 prefectures in infections for weeks.
Some experts say these are signs the epidemic is regaining strength since business and social restrictions started easing late last month. The metropolitan government lifted its advisories against visiting live music venues and nightclubs just a week ago.
Tokyo's 57 cases Saturday involved 27 people in their 20s, 14 in their 30s, seven each in their 40s and 50s, and one each in their 70s and 80s, the metropolitan government said.
