Trial in Russian ambassador’s murder case to begin in Turkey on January 8

A court in Turkey has accepted the prosecution’s indictment concerning the murder of Russian Ambassador to Ankara Andrei Karlov, Turkey’s Hurriyet newspaper reported on Friday.
According to the newspaper, the trial in the case will start on January 8, 2019.
Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was gunned down on December 19, 2016, while delivering a speech at a photo exhibition. The attacker, an off-duty police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas, was immediately killed by security forces. Russia’s Foreign Ministry officially declared the ambassador’s murder a terrorist attack, while the Investigative Committee opened a criminal investigation, labeling Karlov’s assassination an act of international terrorism. Andrei Karlov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
