Demonstrating constant adherence to democratic values, the Republic of Azerbaijan, paying special attention to protection of human rights, joins the highest international standards in the said area. Since 1998, the country together with the UN Hugh Commissioner in human rights carries out the project on strengthening of potential of development and protection of human rights. With participation of the international experts many measures have been taken in the field of execution of the mentioned project participant of which is the Ministry of Justice, as well as prepared and gave at disposal of employees of law enforcement bodies and corresponding structures of the country the textbook, the methodical manual, a collection of documents and other materials on human rights.

In view of expiry of the term of the project, the UNDP resident-coordinator in Azerbaijan Marco Borsotti and the representative of the High Commissioner of the United Nations on human rights Ms. Silta Aiko Georgiadis have met the Minister of Justice, chairman of Judicial - legal Council of Azerbaijan Fikret Mammadov with a view of carrying out of the discussions connected to execution of the prepared new project.

Having noted value of fruitful cooperation with the United Nations, the Minister of Justice has regarded as the sign phenomenon concurrence on time of the new project providing the organization of educational seminars for judges, public prosecutors and employees of penitentiary systems, preparation of reports on execution of the international conventions and rendering of the technical assistance to the Training-legal center of the Ministry of Justice, and the important stage of radical judicial - legal reforms carried out in the country.

Having informed that now on the basis of the most democratic rules is carried out the selection of candidates on vacant posts of judges, the Minister has reminded that the last month the test examinations have been carried out, has noted that for the first time in the country training courses for candidates for the judge will be organized, also has emphasized value of participation within the framework of the project of the international experts in training the candidates.

Highly having estimated the fact that the management of Azerbaijan gives great value to judicial - legal reforms, the representative of the United Nations in the Republic M. Borsotti has noted that the representative of the United Nations observed the test examinations and has assessed them as positive, that the structure represented by him, is ready to support constantly the measures accepted in the said sphere. The visitors have wished the Minister of Justice elected by chairman of Judicial - Legal Council, successfully to complete judicial reforms.

At the meeting, also were exchanged opinions on the concrete measures connected to realization of the project.
