UN High Commissioner for Refugees commends measures taken by Azerbaijan for return of IDPs to liberated territories

UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi commended measures taken by Azerbaijan for the return of IDPs to the liberated territories as he met with the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov, who is on a working visit to Turkiye.

The sides exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and humanitarian issues on the agenda. They also discussed the return of IDPs to their homes in accordance with the statement of November 10, 2020.

During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed the importance of Azerbaijan's cooperation with the UNHCR and provided an insight into the restoration and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories and measures for the return of IDPs to these territories.

Filippo Grandi expressed his gratitude for the detailed information and noted that the work done by Azerbaijan in this direction is commendable.

The sides expressed mutual interest in continuing cooperation to ensure the safe return of IDPs to their native lands.

At the meeting, the sides also discussed regional issues, including the situation in Ukraine.
