US ANALYSTS SAY PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV DECISIVE IN ENSURING POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF AZERBAIJAN
Commenting President Aliyev’s foreign visits, director of the Nixon International Security and Energy Center Zeyno Baran stated that stay of America out of view caused surprise in some and they thought there was a distance between Azerbaijan and the United States. But meetings of US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Linn Pasco in Baku once again demonstrated that the relations are at high level. Linn Pasco said that President Ilham Aliyev’s economic initiatives are valuable. Unfortunately, the world community, as achievements of power, takes into account only the democratic reforms.
Analyst of the Nixon Center stressed that members of the President’s team should have a visit to the United States to make certainty on priorities of the head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in particular, on the eve of presidential elections in the US, for there is a need for larger information. Because at the election campaign, rivals of the Republicans have described Azerbaijan like the Near East countries, “a Moslem country rich with oil resources, and try to blame the Bush Administration officials for friendly relations with Azerbaijan.
The program director Zeyno Baran considers that for assistance to the President George Bush the Azerbaijan officials might come to Washington and give certainty to some questions related to cooperation with the united States in combat against terrorism, energy projects, political and economic reforms and other issues.
