US NEEDS ANOTHER $87 BILLION FOR IRAQ STRATEGY
66 billion of these means will be spent to the military and intelligence operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other regions, while the rest is to be spent for state construction in Iraq and Afghanistan, AzerTAj correspondent reports from Washington.
Currently there are 130 thousands American servicemen in Iraq and 20 thousands from 29 states, the President said. There is a need for another division along with the two multinational divisions headed by British and Poland officers, but some countries still demand permission of the UN Security Council to send troops to Iraq, he added.
President George Bush gave an assignment to US Secretary of State Colin Powell to present the Security Council certain resolution on organization of multinational military forces under the United States in Iraq.
In late September, Secretary of State Mr. Colin Powell will meet with the heads of state in the frame of UN General Assembly in New York and discuss the financial assistance for restoration of Afghanistan. Next month, he is expected to conduct a conference with the similar item on Iraq.
