US TO ASSIST AZERBAIJAN IN TACKLING ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
CIBC senior executive director Telman Aliyev told of the process of CIBC’s formation and noted that club developed thanks to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s support. A favorable investment milieu boosting non-oil sector, in particular, small and medium business was created in Azerbaijan. He also thanked American companies, in particular, ExxonMobil for help in issuing “Caspian Energy” journal.
Erik Stewart told of the meetings conducted in ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, which were mainly devoted to the course of economic reforms in Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence in future progress of Azerbaijan in the business development.
E. Stewart stressed that his aim is to search for the ways to help Azerbaijan settle problems of privatization, telecommunications, cargo transportation and banking sphere. The points of discussions were the issue of the combat against corruption and problems preventing Azerbaijan from joining WTO. The US provided a technical aid of $1 million to this effect.
The meeting participants discussed prospects of cooperation between CIBC and American public organizations, governmental bodies and companies.
During the meeting, Eric Stewart was given a certificate of the honorary member of the Club. Certificates were also presented to new Club members.
CIBC has three co-chairs: SOCAR president Natig Aliyev (Azerbaijan), special envoy of the RF President for the Caspian Viktor Kaluzhny (Russia) and Minister of Fuel and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Vlamidir Shkolnik /Kazakhstan/.
