United States GP qualifying postponed until Sunday morning in storm-swept Austin
Baku, October 25, AZERTAC
Qualifying for the 2015 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix will take place on Sunday morning after heavy rain in Austin on Saturday prevented the session going ahead as scheduled.
After a very wet final practice session - topped by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton - conditions worsened at the Circuit of The Americas, prompting race control to delay the start of qualifying by 30 minutes.
Several similar delays followed until at 16:00 local time - three hours after the session had been due to start - and with no sign of a clear break in the weather, the decision was made to postpone.
It means qualifying will now start at 09:00 on Sunday morning - weather permitting - with the race then due to begin at 14:00.
The teams and drivers found various ways to entertain themselves - and the hardy fans in the grandstands - during Saturday’s delays.
The last time a qualifying session was run on a Sunday was at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix.
