VISIT OF EUROPEAN UNION COMMISSIONER FOR ENLARGEMENT TO AZERBAIJAN
EU COMMISSIONER VISITS SARAI BOARDING SCHOOL
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the recovery work saying that he is well aware of such problems since there are similar child institutions in his native town. He noted that this project will not be the last one, and that he would do his best to seek allotment of funds for reconstruction of other boarding schools in Azerbaijan.
The joint EU-Azerbaijan projects have been realized for 7 years. The Exceptional Assistance Program had been prepared after nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s appeal for funds resulted in allotment of 30 million Euros to Azerbaijan. The first tranche came to the country in 1999 and was spent on large-scare infrastructure projects, whereas the second one went on reconstruction of 10 boarding schools and 7 medical institutions of the Ministry of Health. The projects will have been finished in late 2005.
