WHO Executive Board`s 142nd session kicked off in Geneva

The 142nd session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) has commenced at WHO headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland, from January 22 to 27.
According to WHO, the session mainly focuses on a number of issues including WHO reforms; public health preparedness and response; polio transition planning; health, environment and climate change; addressing the global shortage of and access to medicines and vaccines; global strategy, plan of action on public health, innovation and intellectual property; and preparation for the third High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, to be held in 2018.
The Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. Members are elected for three-year terms. The main functions of the Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the World Health Assembly, to advise it and generally to facilitate its work.
