"CASPIAN ECOLOGY - 2003" CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

The international conference "Caspian Ecology - 2003" has been scheduled for Aktau from 11-12 September this year. According to the press service of the Ministry of Environment of Kazakhstan, the conference will be dedicated to issues concerning cooperation of Caspian littoral states in the field of preserving the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea.

The forum will discuss among other issues including: the ecological basis for the sustained development of the state nature conservation programme and the main paths of consolidation in solving the issue of the sustained development of the Caspian region, activities of t6he oil and gas company and measures being taken to ensure safety during the development of the Caspian (ecological safety during offshore and onshore developments), issues concerning security for the transportation of hydrocarbons through the Caspian; research and predicting ecological risks in the construction of underwater pipelines, future cooperation of Caspian littoral states with the aim of improving the ecological condition and preserving the ecosystem of the Caspian.

The conference was organized by the government of Kazakhstan.
