Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
“The mine threat slows down the recovery process, limits development opportunities, and puts the safety of the population at risk, not only in Azerbaijan, but also in a number of countries around the world,” said Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), during the event titled “Post-Conflict Urban Reconstruction: The Critical Role of Humanitarian Mine Action” held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
According to him, that is precisely why today’s platform carries special significance.
“Azerbaijan has taken large-scale steps toward resolving this problem since the conclusion of the Patriotic War in 2020. Since November 2020, more than 270,000 hectares of land have been cleared, and over 250,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected and neutralized,” ANAMA Chairman Vugar Suleymanov added.
