As part of his working visit to Serbia, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric on Monday.

The meeting, held in an expanded format, saw discussions on various aspects of the Azerbaijan-Serbia strategic partnership, including regional and international security issues.

The foreign ministers hailed the strategic partnership between the two countries, which is founded on mutual respect and trusted partnership, as well as basic norms and principles of international law, particularly mutual support of each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

They described high-level reciprocal visits, friendly relations between the two countries’ leaders as indicators contributing to the development of the strategic partnership. The ministers praised cooperation between the two countries in energy security, transport, culture and tourism, stressing the importance of developing cooperation across economic, trade and investment domains. The officials also underscored the humanitarian cooperation, and mutual visa exemption in fostering people-to-people contacts. The top diplomats emphasized the significance of continuing mutual support and solidarity within regional and international organizations.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the achievements gained during the Azerbaijan-hosted 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate, expressing gratitude for Serbia’s contributions and high-level participation at the event. He also talked about Azerbaijan’s green energy agenda, as well as the region’s role in exporting electricity.

He also wished Serbia success in its preparations for the upcoming Expo 2027, describing this event as an indicator of Serbia’s growing importance.

The Azerbaijani FM informed his Serbian counterpart about the large-scale reconstruction works underway in the liberated territories, the ongoing projects in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and East Zangezur regions, as well as the normalization process with Armenia and the current state of the peace process between the two countries.

Jeyhun Bayramov underlined the importance of reaching agreement on unresolved provisions of the peace treaty, putting an end to the territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in the Armenian constitution in overcoming remaining challenges impeding the peace agenda. FM Bayramov also noted that Armenia’s efforts towards hindering the official abolition of the OSCE Minsk Group contradict the peace process.

The also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
