Azerbaijan’s energy minister: TAP will contribute to diversification of Italy`s gas supply sources

“The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will ensure diversification of gas supply sources for Italy, the European Union`s biggest gas importer,” said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov as he met with a delegation led by Italy`s Under-Secretary of State for Economic Development Michele Geraci.
Shahbazov praised the signing of documents as part of the visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella as well as the opening of a polypropylene plant built with the involvement of Maire Tecnimont company.
He highlighted various aspects of the country's economy, including prospects for further cooperation in renewable energy. The minister said Azerbaijan enjoys high potential in the field of renewable energy sources, adding that consultations with international companies are underway to realize this potential.
Geraci said the energy sector plays a key role in terms of long-term cooperation between the two countries. He said Italy is the key trade partner of Azerbaijan. Geraci expressed his country’s interest in deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan in other areas.
