AZERBAIJAN`S OMBUDSMAN ISSUES STATEMENT ON “ELECTION OF OMBUDSMAN” IN “NAGORNO-KARABAKH REPUBLIC”
Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova issued a statement on the “election of ombudsman” in the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
The issue says “as a result of Armenia’s policy of occupation and ethnic cleanse against Azerbaijan, for twenty years, illegal regime of separatists has been functioning in the Azerbaijan`s integral part Nagorno-Karabakh region.
This illegitimate regime violating the principles of international law, held regular “elections” in the region, nevertheless the international community did not recognize these acts, and considered it as damage to the negotiation process to achieve peaceful settlement to the conflict.
The “election of ombudsman” in the “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic” is an illegitimate act, the Statement runs.
“The international community recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent regions occupied by Armenia as integral part of Azerbaijan.
Armenia does not honor its commitments before the United Nations and the Council of Europe, and it makes necessary to impose sanctions on this country.
According to the Constitutional Law "On the Commissioner for Human Rights (ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan was elected by the parliament of the country, and enjoys power to protect the rights of people throughout the country, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region”.
