Bahar Muradova: Planned “referendum” in Nagorno-Karabakh is attempt to perpetuate status-quo
Baku, February 16, AZERTAC
“The planned illegal “referendum” in Azerbaijan`s occupied territories is an attempt to perpetuate the status-quo in the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament and chair of the parliamentary committee on human rights Bahar Muradova told AZERTAC.
“This provocative step, as well as efforts aimed at changing the name of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is an integral part of Azerbaijan, demonstrate that Armenia is not interested in resolving the conflict, and will increase tension in the region.”
Describing all these attempts as nonsense, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament noted that international organizations and foreign countries have never recognized such kind of fake “elections” of so-called regimes and will never do so. “All international organizations consider the Nagorno-Karabakh as an integral part of Azerbaijan and recognized inviolability of borders and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in their official statements.”
She stressed that the so called “referendum” is a “flagrant violation of the Constitution of Azerbaijan and norms and principles of international law and therefore cannot be legitimate”.
