Baku, December 5, AZERTAC
A panel session titled “Historical and Legal Basis of the Right to Return for Azerbaijanis Forcibly Displaced from Armenia” was held during the second international conference, “The Right to Return: Advancing Justice for Azerbaijanis Expelled from Armenia”, organized by the Western Azerbaijan Community in Baku.
Moderated by MP Fariz Ismayilzade, the session featured prominent speakers discussing the historical and legal framework of displaced Azerbaijanis' right to return. Riffat Inam Butt, Secretary of Pakistan's Law and Justice Commission, highlighted that the expulsion of Western Azerbaijanis constitutes a clear violation of human rights.
Contributions were also made by Guram Markhulia, Editor of the scientific journal of Sukhumi State University, and Ali Asgarov, Professor at the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, USA. They addressed the historical displacement of Azerbaijanis from their lands and their replacement by Armenians.
