Baku, March 10, AZERTAC
Ali Naghiyev, Chief of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, met Monday with Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).
During the meeting, the parties positively assessed the joint activities carried out after the meeting held in April 2022 to find Azerbaijani citizens who went missing as a result of Armenia's military aggression.
Chairman of the State Commission Ali Naghiyev provided detailed information about the urgent measures being undertaken to implement the tasks set before the Commission regarding the issue of searching for missing Azerbaijani citizens, which President Ilham Aliyev has always kept in the spotlight, as well as the efforts to identify and exhume the graves of persons who went missing as a result of the Karabakh conflict and identify the remains of the bodies found. The Chief of the Service also stated that Armenia does not intend to cooperate in the field of clarifying the fate of missing persons and is still demonstrating an unconstructive position.
Chairman of the Commission Ali Naghiyev also expressed his views on the report reflecting the possibilities of searching for missing persons prepared by the Assessment mission of the ICMP and submitted to the Azerbaijani side, and expressed gratitude for the support provided by the ICMP organization to the work of the State Commission.
Kathryne Bomberger, ICMP Director-General, in turn, highlighted the importance of the report, prepared by the ICMP. Noting that significant work has been done within the framework of mutual activities with the Commission, the ICMP Director-General expressed her deep belief that through joint efforts substantial contributions would be made to the future development of inter-commission relations.
The sides also had a broad exchange of views on the issues of mutual interest related to the early clarification of the fate of missing persons.
