Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
“The 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku has broken several historical records, making it the largest event ever organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat),” Ambassador of China to Azerbaijan Lu Mei told AZERTAC.
"This is the first session to be held in the South Caucasus region. On Azerbaijan's initiative, a Leaders' Summit was hosted for the first time within the framework of the World Urban Forum, drawing representatives from nearly 20 countries," she noted.
According to her, the "Urban Expo" exhibition also set a record as the largest exhibition in WUF history, presenting innovative solutions in the fields of housing construction, urban management, and sustainable development.
"Under the wise leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, these achievements fully demonstrate Azerbaijan's growing comprehensive power and international prestige," the diplomat emphasized.
Lu Mei also noted that China attaches great importance to the fact that the WUF13 forum is hosted in Azerbaijan.
"Zhang Guoqing, the representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Vice Premier of the State Council, traveled specifically to Azerbaijan to attend the Leaders' Summit," the Ambassador stated.
Speaking about the cultural ties between China and Azerbaijan, Lu Mei highlighted that the centuries-old history of relations between the two countries traces back to the Ancient Silk Road.
"In recent years, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and President Xi Jinping, relations between Azerbaijan and China have risen to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new historical chapter in cooperation between our two nations," she said.
The diplomat added that China stands ready to further expand cultural and humanitarian ties with Azerbaijan.
