“COAST GUARD” WORKING GROUP OF INTERNATIONAL BORDER CONFERENCE HOLDS REGULAR MEETING IN BAKU
2nd meeting of the International Border Conference (Siófok Conference) was held in Baku, 19 November.
In his opening remarks, deputy chief of Azerbaijan Border Service, chief of Coast Guard MG Ilham Mehdiyev highlighted on the accomplishments Azerbaijan reached in the last years, economic growth in the country, steps undertaken to strengthen border protection in the Republic.
As stated, the Azerbaijan Border Service (ABS) has joined the International Border Conference in 2002. The International Border Conference unites over 50 states and some 15 international organizations. In short period, the Azerbaijan Border Service has participated in many activities of ABS and is a member of 3 Working Groups and has been heading the Coast Guard Working Group for two years.
The 2-day meeting will focus on the issues of reliable protection of sea borders, studying legal base of the border services, exchange of data and experience in the field of strengthening of coast borders security, preparation of recommendations and other important questions.
The event is attended by border security experts from Azerbaijan, the United States, Germany, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Russia and Turkey, as well as the European Union experts on FRONTEX Agency.
