COE commissioner for human rights criticizes France`s bill for so-called “Armenian genocide”
Baku January 27 (AZERTAC). The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg made a report during the PACE plenary winter session on Thursday.
Mr. Hammarberg responded to the question of Azeri MP Ganira Pashayeva regarding the damage, which may cause the freedom of speech and expression because of the bill passed by the French Senate on criminalizing the denial of the so-called Armenian genocide.
“The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland has already set forth his position and I fully agree with his opinion. Of course, it is the French Senate`s wrong approach, which restricts a freedom of speech. I utterly support the words of the Secretary General, who said the politicians should not take decisions concerning history”, Mr. Hammarberg said.
