COP29
“COP29 is a testing ground for strengthening efforts towards a habitable planet”
Baku, November 11, AZERTAC
COP29 serves as a testing ground for strengthening efforts toward a habitable planet. This is especially significant as countries and regions that have not contributed to the climate crisis are now suffering the most from climate change. This situation underscores the need for financial resources to mitigate future impacts of climate change, address natural disasters, and transition to green technologies. Therefore, new targets for climate financing must be set at COP29. It was stated at the event organized by ActionAid International at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
In her remarks, Teresa Anderson, the Global Climate Justice lead at ActionAid International, stated that several wealthy industrial countries are attempting to evade responsibility rather than allocating financial resources to prevent climate disasters.
Other speakers, including representatives of international organization for Somalia, Bangladesh and Australia highlighted the situation in their countries and expressed hope that the negotiations on climate financing would be fruitful.
