Baku, August 24, AZERTAC
“In total, 60 documents are slated to be adopted within the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC),” Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev told journalists at the 29 Climate Conversations: the Road to COP29” Media Workshop on Effective Communications.
Addressing the meeting, the COP29 Lead Negotiator announced the program of the event, adding that the COP29 is a large-scale globally significant process.
According to him, the opening ceremony of UNFCCC will take place on November 11, while it will be followed by a summit of government officials and thematic days regarding the topics in the field of agriculture, food and other fields on November 12-13 and on 14-22 respectively. Additionally, official and non-official platforms will be established.
“The meeting is expected to witness the adoption of more than 60 documents covering topics such as energy, agriculture, technology and others. This will make COP29 the conference with the largest number of adopted documents among the last five COPs,” COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev added.
He noted that a document on financing (The New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance) will be signed within the framework of the COP29. Yalchin Rafiyev added that the document is a kind of a litmus test for most countries to see whether the Paris Agreement has the importance or not.
"If the document is adopted, all developing countries will be provided with the necessary funding to finance their climate action. The ambition is currently high. All countries believe that to achieve the 1.5°C target, it is necessary to set ambitious targets, such as reducing emissions. However, these targets demand three forms of implementation - finance, technologies and capacity building".
