COUNCIL OF EUROPE NOT TO RECOGNIZE FORTHCOMING ELECTIONS IN NAGORNO-KARABAKH
The Council of Europe will never recognize the forthcoming elections in Nagorno-Karabakh, chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Serbian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vuk Jeremich, said at a committee’s June 28 session.
Answering a question of a member of the Azerbaijani delegation, Ganira Pashayeva, connected with forthcoming presidential elections in so-called Nagorno-Karabakh republic, V. Jeremich declared that the Council of Europe supports a negotiating process within the frameworks of the OSCE Minsk group on peace settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. “Its position is unequivocal on settlement of that problem. The Council of Europe and its structures are always loyal to this principle and will never recognize such elections and their results. Such elections render a negative impact on negotiation process", V. Jeremich underlined.
Chairman of the Committee also said that the Council of Europe, expressing its attitude to earlier elections, has repeatedly called these elections illegal, and today holds the same stance.
V. Jeremich stressed that other international organizations will never recognize these elections too.
