EANA Secretary General: Disinformation is one of the greatest threats in today’s media landscape

Several years ago, traditional media was our primary source of information. However, nowadays, the information landscape has evolved into a broader, multifaceted, and complex system. News is currently produced, shared, and shaped not only by media organizations but also via social media, said Alexandru Ion Giboi, Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), as he addressed the panel discussion on “Innovative Approaches: Media Literacy in the Digital Age” held as part of the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum.
“Some stories stay neutral, while others directly impact our personal lives, decisions, and the way we think. The type and tone of information can influence the decisions people make. Therefore disinformation - deliberately spread false information, stand as of the most serious challenges facing today’s media landscape,” he noted.
EANA Secretary General described as commendable the fact that many people are now learning to analyze, assess, and identify this kind of misinformation, which also shows that media literacy is steadily improving and the efforts in this area are starting to pay off.
Sharing his thoughts about the ongoing reconstruction efforts in the city of Shusha, Alexandru Giboi stated: “Visiting Shusha, experiencing this city, carries both a deep responsibility and a sense of honor. When I first arrived in Shusha, we were warned to be cautious because some areas might still be mined. But today, we see a completely renewed picture — a city that has revived, being developed, which is confidently moving forward into the future.”
