Eighty five years ago, on September 15, 1918 Azerbaijan corps and Turkish Caucasian Islamic Army commanded by Nuru pasha liberated Baku from Bolshevik-Dashnak rule. As a result of the city’s liberation at the cost of courage and blood of the heroic Turkish soldiers, the Government of Azerbaijan returned from Ganja to Baku September 17. Thus, it was the end of the bloody slaughter and arbitrariness committed by Armenian dashnaks and Bolsheviks since March 1918, and their plans to isolate Baku from the rest part of Azerbaijan. With Baku liberated, the Government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic established its power throughout the country.

Commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of liberation of Baku was held on September 15 in Shahidlyar Khiyabani /Martyrs Alley/. In the alley, where brave fighters died for freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan lie, the heroic Turkish soldiers have been commemorated; a wreath on behalf of President of Azerbaijan Republic Heydar Aliyev and Government has been laid on memorial erected in their honor.

Although, it has been 85 years since that day, the fraternal aid rendered by the Turkish Army will never be forgotten, and the next generations of the Azerbaijani people will always remember that with gratefulness.
